A veteran of the coaching and teaching professions, Todd Alles joined the Crimson Tide football staff in January, 2007, after serving the past two seasons as a program assistant for operations and recruiting at The Ohio State University. His previous position was his third appointment at Ohio State after serving as a graduate assistant coach under Woody Hayes and a volunteer strength and conditioning coach and academic adviser under Jim Tressel.

In October 2002, Alles was awarded the Ohio State Alumni Award for Professional Achievement, honoring a career that has included the titles of teacher, head baseball coach, head wrestling coach, head football coach, athletics director, assistant principal and principal.

After coaching, teaching and administrative positions at Dublin High School (1977-86), Oberlin High School (1990-92), Perkins High School (1992-96), North Olmstead High School (1996-2001), and Avon Lake High School (2001-03), Alles retired but continued to coach. From Oct. 2003 to March 2004, he worked with OSU players in the weight room and as an academic adviser, then from March 2004 to May 2005 served as the defensive coordinator at Dublin Jerome High School before rejoining the Buckeyes staff.

Alles was a member of Big Ten champion Ohio State teams in 1974 and 1975 which played in the Rose Bowl both seasons. In 1975, he was an OSU Scholar-Athlete before serving as graduate assistant coach for the Buckeyes in 1976 and 1997. Alles earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1977 and would later earn his master’s degree in education administration in 1989.

He graduated from Marion-Franklin High School in Columbus in 1965 and served in the United States Navy as a flight engineer from Sept. 1965 to Dec. 1968, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. He and his wife, Karen, have three adult children and three grandchildren.
