TUSCALOOSA | School came first for Florida State University's softball team when it came to the NCAA Tournament.
The Seminoles skipped Wednesday's practice session for the Tuscaloosa Regional at the Alabama Softball Complex and also did not make the press conference. FSU's summer school is in session, and head coach JoAnne Graf elected to take a later bus trip on the day before the tournament opens to allow her players to attend class.
FSU brings a 37-26 record into the Tuscaloosa Regional
Florida State, which will play Jacksonville State in Thursday's 4 p.m. opening game, is coming off a 2-0 loss to Virgnia Tech in the semifinal round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. Virginia Tech's Angela Tincher threw a no-hitter to shut out the Seminoles. FSU was seeded third in the ACC Tournament.
Florida State is making its ninth straight regional appearance and its second in a row in Tuscaloosa. FSU is playing in an NCAA regional for the 20th time and is 38-28 all-time in regional play.
