TUSCALOOSA | Anthony Brock, a second-team junior college All-American point guard, is expected to announce his intention to sign with a Division I school today, and the University of Alabama is considered to be the leader in his recruitment.

Brock, a sophomore from Little Rock, Ark., was named National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Player of the Year at Itawamba (Miss.) Community College and was the top vote-getter among second-team NJCAA All-Americans.

The 5-foot-9 guard scored more than 1,000 points in his junior college career, averaging 18.5 points, 4.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 steals as a sophomore.

“Anthony had some great numbers for us in his two years,” ICC head coach Marty Cooper said in a press release announcing Brock’s All-America status.

“But when you’re evaluating a point guard, you look at what he’s done with your won-lost record: 30-4 this past season and 57-10 the last two years is phenomenal.

“I know all of these head coaches from top-notch D-I leagues around the nation have noticed those numbers in their recruiting of Anthony.”

Brock made 47 percent of his 3-point attempts and 48 percent of his shots from the field last season, and sank 77 percent of his free throw attempts.
