TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama basketball program granted freshman guard Rico Pickett and sophomore guard Justin Tubbs releases from their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, the athletic department said in a press release.

Pickett, who started 20 games and averaged 5.9 points per game last season, was suspended last weekend for violation of team rules. Tubbs averaged 3.1 points per game in a reserve role.

Their releases come on the heels of the news that point guard Ronald Steele and forward Richard Hendrix have decided to make themselves eligible for this summer’s NBA Draft, although neither is retaining an agent. Either or both could return to Alabama if they decide their position in the draft lottery is not worth giving up their final year of eligibility.

Steele is a senior from Birmingham who sat out last season on a medical redshirt. Hendrix just completed his junior season.
