ALPHARETTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama golf team’s win streak came to an end Wednesday. The No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide finished third at 8-over-par 872 at the United States Collegiate Championship.

After winning the first three of its spring tournaments, the Tide finally had to settle for less. Three of Alabama’s five golfers bogeyed their last holes.

The Tide had moved into second place but couldn’t hold the position in the final round. Alabama led the tournament briefly Wednesday after making the turn at 1-over but couldn’t catch Southern California or Oklahoma State, who shot 5-under and 7-under in the final round.

Fifth-ranked Southern California won with an even-par 864. Oklahoma State finished second at 3-over 867.

Alabama was third at 8-over 872, followed by host Georgia Tech 875, Florida State 977, Texas A&M 881, UCLA 882, Georgia State 883, Georgia 886, Charlotte 889, Stanford 897, East Tennessee 899, Coastal Carolina 902, Texas 916 and Brigham Young 920.

Oklahoma State’s Trent Leon was the individual champion with a 208.

Alabama’s Michael Thompson, the nation’s top-ranked golfer, finished at 1-over 217 to tie for eighth place. Thompson has finished among the top 10 individuals in all seven tournaments he’s played this season.

Tied for 13th at 3-over 219 were Matthew Swan and Gator Todd. Mark Harrell finished at 222 and Joseph Sykora shot 226.

Next for Alabama is the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas, April 7-8. It is Alabama’s final regular-season tournament.
