TUSCALOOSA | The second-ranked University of Alabama softball team brought out its heavy bats in Lexington, Ky., last weekend, hitting 12 home runs in three games to clobber the Kentucky Wildcats three times by a combined 34-8 score.

The Crimson Tide, which hadn’t hit a home run in three straight games going into the Kentucky series, dating back to a March 12 game against Florida, will try to bring some heavy hitting home tonight for a non-conference game against UAB.

Alabama sophomore first baseman/pitcher Charlotte Morgan was responsible for four of the Tide’s dozen homers against the Wildcats. She tied the school single-game record with two home runs twice, doing it in consecutive games on Saturday, and earned Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors. Morgan went 7-for-10 for the week, scoring six times and driving in a dozen runs. She also hit two doubles and stole a base in the series.

Alabama blasted three tape-measure homers off UAB pitchers in a 10-1 victory on March 6 in Birmingham, with Morgan joining Lauren Parker and Ashley Holcombe in clearing the fences at George Ward Park.

The Tide has won six games in a row. sweeping Kentucky and Mississippi State on the road in its last two SEC series, and 11 of its last 13 contests.

The Tide will not leave the state again until it visits Arkansas on April 17 for a doubleheader. Alabama will host Ole Miss this weekend for a three-game series, play at Samford in Birmingham on April 2, host LSU for a weekend series on April 5-6, visit Troy on April 10, visit Auburn for a three-game weekend series on April 12-13 and play an exhibition against the U.S. Olympic team on April 15 in Birmingham’s Liberty Park.

UAB is coming off a three-game weekend sweep over Conference USA foe Memphis after losing nine of its previous 10 games.

The Tide is 4-0 all-time against UAB. Alabama hasn’t lost a non-conference game to an instate foe since dropping a doubleheader to Samford in 1997 in the first year of the UA program.
