FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. | The Alabama women’s track and field team got a stellar performance from senior Trish Bartholomew and key points from underclassmen to finish seventh overall with 43 points at the SEC Indoor Championships. Bartholomew won the 400 to lead the Tide Sunday in the Randal Tyson Track Complex.

Bartholomew set the tone by shattering the Alabama school record in the 400 with a time of 52.10. The old record was held by Kou Luogon with a time of 52.69.

Junior Betty Rotich just missed top honors in the 5000 meters with a second place finish of 16:26.75, a second behind Denise Bargiachi of Arkansas. The time was a new personal best for the Kenyan native. Farrah Stewart also set a personal best with a time of 18:23.30.

After finishing third overall in her first ever pentathlon, sophomore Chelsea Taylor took second place in the high jump with a leap of 6-00.75, tying a personal best.

Also scoring in the field events was pole vaulter Lynda Cooper. The junior cleared 12-10.25 to finish fifth overall. Freshman Angelica Howard nearly got into the top eight with a heave of 52-01.00 in the weight throw. The toss was also a personal best.

Fellow newcomers Christina Octavien, Jessica Hand and Meghan Austin also set personal bests with tosses of 44-11.00, 44-06.75 and 41-07.00, respectively.

LSU won the SEC title with a total of 133 points to outdistance the 116 points of Tennessee. Host Arkansas finished third with 93 points.

Alabama will look to add to its provisional marks list by competing in the Notre Dame Last Chance Meet. The event is slated for Friday, March 7 at the Notre Dame Loftus Sports Center.
